Baby comes home!

I have wood! Well, after placing my kit order in late October, waiting for the holidays to cycle through and construction to be completed, as well as a month in shipping, my little ocean voyager in a four by eight crate has finally arrived!

With fall gone and winter settling in I am definitely getting anxious to start building my 5.80 in earnest. After the successful completion of the 5.80 Transat it is nice to see the class coalescing into something more substantive as a lot of R&D was done in that first outing.

Unfortunately it did not go entirely without incident. The shipping company brought out three crates one of which was damaged in transit. My invoice showed three items so after a closer inspection I signed for the crates and took them home. Once back at home I unloaded the boxes and immediately opened the damaged crate to check on the contents. Inside I found a bunch of things I didn’t expect; mast sections, sails, and other hardware unrelated to a Class Globe 5.80. Further inspection revealed a parts list and invoice addressed to another hopeful sailor and boat builder nearby in Olympia, Wa. Unlikely as it seems, someone else ordered a boat kit from B&B to be shipped to western Washington and their crate went missing when it got mixed in with mine. Needless to say everyone was relived that the missing boat has turned up and I was ultimately glad to help it find its way home. All is well that ends well I suppose!
