Old New Beginnings

Well, after what felt like an eternity, I am finally able to start building my miniature ocean racer. I have watched with enthusiasm as my fellow builders have made excellent progress on their fine looking yachts, all the while needing to complete another project to make room in my friend’s shop for the little boat.

With my other projects wrapped up, and some time spent carving out some space, I was finally able to proceed. I really wanted to build something for once, so I picked up some lumber from the local home improvement store and began building the jig that I will eventually build the boat upon.

It took some effort to get all of the measurements correct to the mm but it was satisfying work and went fairly quickly. With the strong back complete, I began epoxy coating the plywood and timber pieces that make up the frames. I want all of the wood to be as sealed up as possible from the bottom up. I figure that a few more kilos of resin will be worth it in the end to achieve a solid foundation.

Once I have enough pieces prepped I will assemble some frames and get them hung on the jig. It is exciting to finally see the project starting to take shape.
